Custom whitening trays: why we prefer them to one-size kits
Pharmacy whitening strips and custom trays use similar chemistry. The difference is fit, and fit is everything.
Whitening works by letting a peroxide gel sit against enamel long enough to break down stains. Every product from pharmacy strips to professional trays relies on that same reaction. So why do results vary so much?
Fit decides the result
Strips and boil-and-bite trays touch some teeth well and others barely at all, which is how you end up with patchy results and gel leaking onto your gums. A custom tray, made from an impression of your own teeth, holds the gel evenly against every surface and keeps it off the soft tissue.
Because the fit is sealed, we can also use professional-strength gel safely, and you can re-use the same trays for years with top-up gel whenever your shade drifts.
Sensitive teeth?
Sensitivity is the most common whitening complaint, and it's manageable: shorter wear times, lower-strength gel, and desensitizing toothpaste between sessions all help. Tell us about sensitivity before you start and we'll build the plan around it.
